Worship

As our Statement of Mission proclaims, at MRC the worship of God in Jesus Christ is the center of our life and purpose. This is because we believe that the Church's worship, witness, and service are inseparable, and also that faithful and consistent worship is what must ground our relationship to God, thereby preparing us to live as God's people and to minister in the way of Jesus Christ.

Our way of worshipping is traditional and Reformed. It is distinguished by at least three qualities.

The first is its corporate nature. Worship involves a gathering of the community, whose every member is valued and has access to God, and whose purpose is to respond to God's gracious offer of love, forgiveness, compassion, and hope. We do this through prayer, reading and preaching the scriptures, and celebrating the sacraments on a regular basis. In an age when many find it difficult to form and maintain connections with either God or other human beings, worshipping as a community of faith provides a much-needed resource that the scriptures confirm is pleasing to God.

Our worship is liturgical, meaning we employ fixed formulas and structures in worship because we trust the wisdom and history of the Church over the ingenuity or charisma of any single worship leader. Even so, we seek to strike a balance between "form and freedom" as we also utilize less formal and structured elements of worship: i.e., Children's sermons, extemporaneous prayers, greetings and announcements. So, while the order of our worship remains fairly constant, the content of that order is given different expressions week to week.

Our worship is sacramental, meaning we affirm the belief that in worship, God encounters and confronts us not merely through words, but also through material means: namely, in the waters of baptism and in the elements of bread and wine in the Lord's Supper. Baptisms are celebrated as requested. The Lord's Supper is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month and at various other times throughout the year.

We also enjoy a diverse musical offering headed by an accomplished Director of Music and organist as well as a gifted choir. Please join us for a rich and meaningful worship experience.
